In this unit, students will embark on an exploration of the refugee experience by delving into the pages of When Stars Are Scattered. This powerful graphic novel unveils the true story of two brothers who were uprooted from their homeland in Somalia due to a civil war and found themselves growing up in one of the world’s largest refugee camps. Through their narrative, students will gain insights into the hardships, losses, and fears endured by refugees, while also witnessing their resilience and their pursuit of purpose and normalcy.
